Dozer aka Jarhead
Jarhead, now known as Dozer waited so long for his forever home. This wonderful dog was a joy to have at the shelter and we all miss him very much; but, we are forever grateful that he has found a new home and a new life that he so deserved. He is pictured here (on the left) with his new brother, Tonka. Thank you to all who were dilligent in finding a home for Dozer and for never giving up hope.
Maya
My boyfriend, Dave, and I welcomed "Maya" to our home on August 18, 2006. She was one out of a litter of four or five beautifully marked tabbies. My mom spotted her at Paulmac's and had to call us right away. She explained there were three "exotic-looking" kittens up for adoption, and that they likely wouldn't last. We were able to make it down a few days later, and thankfully, there was one left. Compared to the rambunctious little darlings in the cage next to her, Maya exuded a quiet contentment for a kitten of her age. She allowed me to pick her up and cradle her in my arms. I knew right then and there I couldn't leave the store without taking her home. My boyfriend knew this, too, as I noticed he had disappeared for a brief moment, only to return with an armful of cat supplies. We sat trying to decide on a name for our new little friend, when suddenly "Maya", meaning "divine creative force in everything" popped into my head. And boy, does it suit her! She truly is a force to be reckoned with! She's an extremely vocal young lady and will let you know what she wants when she wants it. She runs to the door to greet us when we come home, whether it's from a long day at work or a five-minute outing. She'll proceed to tell us her "story" as we take off our jackets and shoes. Sleeping in on a Saturday morning is simply unheard of for her! An early riser (she usually jumps off the bed at 5:00 o'clock on the dot every morning), if we're not out of bed by 8 a.m., she'll do everything in her power to wake us up, from walking up and down our bodies, pacing back and forth from pillow to pillow, inspecting the nightstands, emitting closed-mouth meows and desperate little murmurs that say, "Get up! The sun is shining and I'm happy!" We're both so thankful for having had the opportunity to save one life, to change this little creature's quality of living so dramatically and give her a loving "forever" home. And I can tell by the way she sits curled on my lap, contently purring as I type this message, that she is, too.

Beatrix (aka Jellybean)
Hi, I adopted Jellybean a few weeks ago. Since then I have named her "Beatrix Baby Girl". She has settled in so easily and we all love our new addition to our family. My grown children were up for Easter and thought she was adorable.
Beatrix is such a little girl bunny - she loves cuddling into your neck and is timid and shy. On the other hand, "Benjamin Bugs Bunny" is a real boy bunny, inquistive, on the move and adventerous. They make an adorable bunny couple. Beatrix learned to use the litter box within two weeks and slowly I introduced her to Benjamin. Well from the first meeting he was 'over the moon' for her and whether it was the vanilla on their heads that made them smell alike or love, they have been very close the last week. Benjamin reinforced her litter box training and then showed Beatrix all his special hiding / playing places in the hall and kitchen.
They have their own sleeping boxes, baby blankets, treats and toys. I set out a buffet of food for them each morning and night (of fresh veggies and fruit). They also have special balanced pellets, Timothy hay (and some alfafa) as standard items to eat. When we come home they are excited and meet us at the kitchen door. Benjamin was always cuddly and I taught him to lie on my shoulder or lap. He enjoys being wrapped up in a baby blanket and he will cuddle for up to 30 minutes. I am teaching Beatrix the same thing and she is also becoming a shoulder or lap cuddle baby bunny!
At night I lay on their blankets under the kitchen table and let them hop all over me, while I intermittenly give them kisses and scritches on their heads. Beatrix now closes her eyes too, just like Benjamin when she is being scritched! They are a real delight to watch and Benjamin loves washing and kissing Beatrix. Enclosed are some of my favourite photos and I hope Beatrix's friends all find good homes soon too.
Thank you. Audrey g.
| Mattea Last July we decided to adopt a dog as a
new member to our family. As soon as we saw the picture of Mattea on
the Brantford SPCA website we knew that this was the puppy for us. Coming
up on 9 months later, we couldn’t be happier. Mattea has enriched our
lives so much, and brings great joy to our days. Richard and Laura |

| Stella Blue and Cassidy Rose We are very thankful to the Brantford SPCA for all of the wonderful and dedicated work that they do on behalf of the animals. Nearly one year ago we adopted Stella Blue, an absolutely beautiful four year old Wolfhound X. She has brought more joy to us than can be imagined. We have never known a more loyal and devoted dog. This year Stella completed a week long canoeing, portaging trip into Algonquin park, as well as a week long hiking trek through the hills of Killarney. She thrives in the outdoors and has become a great hiker, strong swimmer and an excellent canoe girl!Recently Stella Blue found a companion in our newest family member Cassidy Rose. He is a strikingly handsome two year old Labradoodle. He’s a big ol’ pup and his curiosity, and playful nature keep us smiling. He now responds enthusiastically at the prospect of a going for a hike and is responding well to being on lead. We look forward to getting Cassidy rugged and ready for camping this coming year!Thank you once again to the staff at the Brantford SPCA. We love our two treasures very much and look forward to many years of happiness with them. Mark and Jodie Liston |

| Duncan I just wanted to drop you guys a line regarding Duncan (previously "Ivory"). He's settled in just fine and now enjoys watching the tube (TV) during the evening. Thanks to everyone at the shelter from the both of us. Richard & Duncan |

| Lexi and Frisco
Our
families' first visit to the Brantford SPCA in August of 2005 was
to see "Frisco", a dog we saw in an adoption add in the
Brantford Expositor, sponsored by Lee Munro Chev Olds. After spending
an few hours at the shelter we had not only found the perfect pet,
we had gained an appreciation and great respect for the volunteers
there, and their tireless efforts and compassion towards a seemingly
endless number of homeless pets. Frisco became part of the family
right away, rarely did we go anywhere without him. A year later
we decided that it was time to look for a companion for Frisco...along
came Lexi (Belinda). It didn't take long for them to become inseparable.
They play, sleep and eat together. They love their morning walks,
in the evening Lexi waits patiently at the door for Frisco while
he's out for his "run", (she's not ready yet), then they
both go for a jog around the block.

| FLETCHER
I live in an apartment and wanted a medium sized pooch as my new friend after having to put my cat down due to illness. After searching 3 shelters for about 2 months, trying to find my perfect dog, I gave up and adopted a lovely, little gray kitten, Mouse! Of course, a week later I dropped into the shelter and found the boy of my dreams. I was worried about my kitten, but the girls at the shelter held a tiny baby up to this fella and he just snuffled it and wagged his lovely tail. I took Fletcher home 3 days later and was delighted to find that he was house trained and loved Mouse.
Summer and winter we go for LONG walks every day. It's a rare day that we don't spend an hour or two a day on the trails. He met his best pooch pal Lucky on the trail and found out that Lucky was a pound puppy too! They love to growl and bite and wrestle each other. People who don't know them think they are serious, but neither would ever hurt the other. I found out Fletcher has allergies and needs special food to stop the scratching, but he's worth it. For our first few months Fletcher was terribly carsick, but we started driving to Tim Horton's each morning for timbits and he got over the carsickness in a couple of weeks! Now he can go anywhere and can't wait to get in the car and off on a new adventure.
Fletch has SO much attitude. When he gets into mischief, he always has to get in the last word and talks back until he's made his point! Fletcher lives for food and play and believes that there is nothing wrong with a 50 pound lap dog! He sings for treats. Sleeping on a down pillow is the only way to spend a night. Frisbees are wonderful. Vets are nice, but really scary. Roast chicken is fabulous. Rabbits are fun to catch and hold down with your nose. (You don't hurt them!) Even skunks are fun to play with, but they turn on you! Fletcher has a huge fierce bark, but is usually scared of little dogs. (They bite, even though he doesn't!) He dances & wags his whole body when I come home, even when I've only been gone a few minutes!
I don't know who "lost" Fletcher, but I do know they lost someone special! Tina |

| SAM
totally stretched out, thoroughly enjoys camping, the Drag Racing Track and being anywhere we are. He count not be more perfect.
It is truly a success story as when we first saw him we were told that he was already adopted by a family we saw him playing with. When I called a couple of days later, the girl told me that the people backed out and it was at that time that I knew we were meant for each other. We rushed down that day and scooped him up. He could have not been a better birthday present for my daughter or present for our family.
He's the best and I must add here that he is the second perfect pup we have purchased from the SPCA. Our first, "Nitrous" passed away at the age of 13.5 years old.
Sam could not be more loving and perfect and we are grateful for the opportunity to have such a wonderful pet.

| BROOK
picture on the internet, drove down (in a snowstorm!) from London and brought her home. We named her Brook, after Corner Brook because you thought she might be part Newf. She was about three and a half months old. She has grown into a wonderful, lively, beautiful member of our family which also includes another dog, Gander (adopted from Animal Care here in London), a cat and two sons. Brook weighs 70lbs and is about 24 inches tall. (For some reason she is fearful of the tape measure, so we can only estimate.)
Thank you Kathleen |

| LANCEY
wild when we got him... after his life on the street. He pulled like crazy on the leash. As one of you told us when I came to pick him up, he talks a lot. Lancey's been wonderful. He is calm enough now to go off the leash and play with the other dogs at the park.
We love Lancey and we are very grateful he came into our lives. Thanks to Brant County SPCA for holding on to Lancey for us!

| HERE'S
SIMON... I just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how wonderful things have been since Simon joined our lives. His claim to fame was having been one of the longest serving residents of the Brantford OSPCA. He even
had his picture in the paper! He did however have a strong set of vocals whenever he was picked up. Who knew?
Well, we brought him home and within a few weeks Simon had come out of his shell and has become the cat of our dreams! He's extremely friendly, loves his belly rubbed, loves to chase flies around the house and "talk" to us all day long. What a treat it's been to share our lives with this little bundle of loveable energy.
Thank you Neil & Nicky |

| MIKEY!
We met Mikey at the Wiggle Waggle Walkathon this spring, wearing a red "Adopt Me" bandana. Our dog Scully checked him out and found him acceptable, and he came to live with us shortly before the May 2003 long weekend.
Mikey has exceeded all of our expectations - even Scully's! He is definitely a character - a lovable goof. His nickname is 'Gronk' which somehow just seems to suit him. He's had to deal with a lot of change - a new set of people, a new dog 'sister', horses, a donkey, and five cats, and he has accepted all with remarkable grace. He is affectionate and silly, loves ropes and nylabones, and only barks at the horses when he knows they can't reach him.
Mikey has had a busy summer. He has spent time at the cottage where he plays an incredibly repetitive 'splashing game' in the lake. He went to obedience class (Pet-D-Gree) where he was known as the class loudmouth, and occasional bad boy, but ultimately graduated with top marks!
just love him. We would encourage anyone considering a new pet to consider an adult shelter dog instead of a puppy - Mikey is proof that it can be the most rewarding experience! Thanks so much! Sue and Ron |

Just thought I'd send a couple of before and after photos of a puppy we adopted on June 15/03. His name was Sammy at the shelter but we renamed him Bailey. He has adjusted really well and is happy and healthy.
I am so glad that he is in our life.

Here is our Success pup we adopted from the Brant County SPCA in November of 2001. One of the photos is his photo from the website that we absolutely fell in love with!!
He has been a great addition to our family of 2 cats and our 2 week old
daughter. He passed Grade 1 at McCann's training and has been
superb!
He loves to go for long walks and has a great time camping.
Thank you so much for bringing him into our lives! Sarah, Matt & Meghan |

FIRST COMES SIMON, THEN
COMES EMMA
We got Simon in 2001 from the SPCA.
I fell in love with Simon when I saw him pick up his food with his paws.
He is affectionate and loving towards me and my husband but after a short period of time we noticed he was missing something!
So we decided to go down the SPCA again and then we saw a very cute little grey and white kitten she was so cute and fluffy so we adopted her as well!!! |

RADU and WIXER
in
such a friendly way when we held him and he seemed to be fairly confident.
I chose Radu. He
seemed to be very lively and curious. They have been absolutely wonderful and easy going pets. Firstly, they did not seem to mind traveling in the car in their crate. Also, they took to each other right away. When we got home from Brantford, they spent about four hours playing and chasing each other until they were completely out of breath! They still play
together regularly, but not as intensely now. the house as we go about our daily activities. Both like to hop into our bathtub (empty). They both have a strange idea of what makes a comfortable resting place. Hard plastic boxes and linoleum floors are more
popular than soft beds. we had no trouble clipping his nails, for example. He is very "catlike" in his movements and can easily climb
to any perch. He is fussy about his toys and only plays with toy
mice with tails. frightened. He tends to imitate Radu. He is not very cat like, and cannot climb as well as Radu yet. He likes
ball shaped toys and walks around with them in his mouth. His
medium hair fur is very silky soft. They are not otherwise destructive or troublesome. They are not fussy about their food, litter, location of litter
box, or anything else. They love to play with the laser pointer.
Thank you Janevieve
