TIMBER WILSON

On January 20th, 2002 my Husband and I walked into the Brantford SPCA, walked up to the cage and instantly fell in love.  We brought Timber home and he became our child literally.  He was 5 months old, and definitely acted like one.

After some obedience school and a whole lot of love, he has turned out to be a great child and just loves everyone.  We are actually thinking of maybe now getting him a friend to play with.

Thank you Brantford O.S.P.C.A. for the addition to our family.

OLIVER

(a.k.a. Wiggles)

We first met Wiggles on the SPCA website and fell in love with his goofy smile and obvious love of life!

We happily added “Wiggles”, now “Oliver” to our family July 28 2004.

He has brought much excitement, laughs and love everyday and even though it has only been weeks none

of us can imagine what it was like before he was with us!  He has proven to be a very gentle, sweet,

eager to please puppy with a zest for life and love for everyone he has met.

He came home to meet 2 brothers, a cat Louie, and biological brother Gus, what a busy home for Oliver

to join and fit in so well with!  Since Oliver has been home he has learned to sit, lay down, stay, share

toys and treats, fetch and come (with the right motivation), we continue working on his ability to walk

nicely on a leash and to greet people sitting……not, jumping for kisses.  What a smart puppy!

Good luck to all considering adoption from the SPCA, it has turned out to be one of the happiest

decisions of our lives.  Though we are sad to see Oliver and Gus’ sister “Sadie” (along with the

many more hopefully pets) still waiting for a family we are encouraged that their canine family is

happy, loving and full of sweet puppies that will become a quick family member to enjoy!

Good Luck & Thanks for our boy,

"BETTY"

I adopted a little black bunny from you a few months ago because she had the biggest black eyes

on your website.  Well, I named her "Betty" after Betty Boop the cartoon and she is living happily

with "Winter" my other dwarf bunny.  She is still very jumpy and doesn't like to be held, probably due

to her previous owners who neglected her, but she is adjusting well and has the appetite of a horse!

Thanx again, Liz M - Burlington Ontario

"PUMBA"

Hi, I adopted Pumba last week and I just wanted to let you know that he is doing wonderful!

He is very happy here and he follows me around everywhere I go... he even jumped in the shower

with me.  He is going to the bathroom properly and eating well, and I can just tell that he is very

comfortable.  He has settled right in.

I have a hampster named Pickles and Pumba just loves to watch him.  I put pickles in his ball and

Pumba chases the ball around... and they both look at each other.  Pickles doesn't seem scared at all.

Pumba loves to sleep with me, and even when I'm lying on my stomach,

he stretches on my back and rests his head on my shoulder.

Pumba loves when I have people over and they all seem to love him too.

He is extremely affectionate just like you said.  He kisses my nose so much that it was red and dry (ha ha).

Pumba loves to stretch his paws out on my face and he likes wrapping his arms around my arms.

Here are some pictures I have taken of Pumba the first couple of days I had him.

"SWEETPEA MYLES"

My name is now Sweetpea but my Mom and Dad changed my name from Holly and I am now 7 months old.

Just to refresh your memory, I'm a little kitty that's part brown tabby and part orange tabby and my

adoption papers say that my lot number was 144 735 B.

I was adopted on September 4, 2004 from Petsmart in Ancaster and I just wanted to let you know that

I'm doing fine and that I love my new home, my new parents and even my older sisters!!  I fight with my

2 older sisters a little bit but Mom tells my sisters that they just have to take it because I'm just a baby

still and I have lots more energy that I have to get rid of then they do.  When she says that, I just stick

my tail in the air and say "ha ha!!"

My Mom and Dad apologize for taking so long to let you know that I'm doing fine.  They got married

in the beginning of October and I was the unofficial flower cat but I wouldn't stand still for pictures

with all my kitten energy and all!!!

I'm still a little stand offish with people but I think that's just because I was born out of captivity.  I will

snuggle a little but it has to be on my terms.  I like to play with toys and little catnip mice and even caught

my first real mouse a couple of weeks ago.  I wasn't quite sure what to do with it so I took if to Mom and

she let it go outside.  But she gave me a big rub to let me know that I did the right thing (and don't tell my

parents this, but I liked it!)

I'm sending you some pictures of me and my sisters.  I'm the pretty and cute one (don't tell that I said that!)

I will think of you guys always because you treated me and my brother so well and you helped me find my

new Mom and Dad.

I have to go now because it is treat time and I have to beat the 2 fat and ugly

(oops, I mean skinny and pretty) sisters to the treat bag.

Thank you again.

Sweetpea Myles

(and Matt, Kate, Bonny & Angel Myles too!!)

"GRACIE"

On July 25th, 2003, I went off to the Brantford OSPCA in search of an adult kitty for my 25th birthday

present.  I sent my mother and fiancé into the shelter, as I knew I could never make up my mind.

As long as it was a shelter kitty, I wanted it.

They came out with a beautiful grey, short haired cat with one tiny white spot on his chest.

When we brought him home, he promptly jumped out of his box and hid in the bathtub

~ a place he would continue to hide until he got used to us.

Originally named Smitty, we decided to since he was getting a new life, a brand new name

should be in order:  Gracie is what he prefers to be called now.

It has been over a year now and I couldn't ask for a sweeter cat.  Gracie loves to chase his favorite

yellow lion toy around the house and favorite perches include the top of my kitchen cupboards

and his own special corner in the hallway.

PLEASE give an adult animal from the OSPCA a second chance; they may be

out of that "baby" cute stage, but they're into a whole other, wonderful stage

as an adult.  I don't know how Gracie ended up at the shelter, whether he got

lost or someone foolishly gave him up, but I'm glad he was there for me to

give him another chance to be loved.

Thanks, Christy

OTTO

Hello All!

I just wanted to send a couple of pictures of Otto enjoying the summer sun.

He is not particularly fond of the camera.

Thanks so much for everything, especially for taking such great care of this gentle

giant.  He has lost some much needed weight, loves to run and play and looks

at us as if to say "thank you" for taking me in.  We couldn't have found a better

boy to spend our days with.

He is perfect for us.  We will love him forever...

Keep up the great work.  Otto says thank you too (ruff)!

WILLOW

We got Willow in the late summer of 2004.  From the moment my mom and I walked into see what dogs

were available there was Willow wagging her tail and wanting to lick a hand.  As soon as we walked out

we explained that we'd like to adopt her... but other pending adoptions had been made.

The day we were told Willow was ours we jumped with excitement.

Willow has been a most wonderful addition to the family.  She's a very playful

soul.  Gets into trouble but knows when she's' been bad and never does it

again.  Willow gets along with our one cat Tiger, they can't be separated.

Our cat Sparky, well he's still a little cautious but seems to love her as well.

Willow has fit right in with the family!

THE STORY OF BEN

In a few months, we'll be celebrating five years with Ben, thanks to the

Brantford SPCA.  He had been given away two times already by other

owners and with you for a month when we visited your shelter.  I was

terrified of big dogs.  I meant to get a tiny puppy yellow Lab.  But the

very second I saw this sad one year old, my fate was sealed.

He was a dynamo, stubborn, untrained, and demanding.  He tore apart

everything he could grab.  He jumped up on everyone.  But we persisted.

He was great at obedience class but the minute we walked out the door,

he'd say, "Well, that's over, now I can be myself again."

The first two years were difficult, because before we adopted him, he'd been left outside, alone a great deal.

He needed so much socialization, attention, time, dedication.  We were totally committed to Ben.  Soon

we realized how bright he was, and how stubborn and bossy, and what a great sense of humour he had.

The five year anniversary of our life with Ben is coming up in a few months.  He has brought so much into

our lives.  I've never had so much exercise, met so many people (dog lovers, all) who are drawn to him.  The

house is still littered with the shoes and slippers he covets, and the once stuffed animals with the balls

of white stuffing all over the floor, and the shoes and caps and log and chew toys and all of his other

treasures that are throughout the house, along with the snowdrifts of golden hair.

Ben has won the hearts of so many people. His story was featured in the book,

"If Only They Could Speak" by Dr. Nicholas Dodman, Head of the Canine Behavioural Department,

School of Veterinary Medicine, Tufts University, Boston, MA.

Almost fours years ago, Ben gained a little brother.

We adopted our second dog who is now his very best friend.

ODE TO BENNY

What is it that binds a human mind
To that of another species, an animal
That does not speak our language,
Nor follow our life.

How can we make that spiritual connection
To another animal, not human, a dog
Of the canine species,
To feel love in our own hearts
And love from him too
From his heart.

He walks on four legs, I on two,
He smiles with his tail,
Laughs with his playfulness,
Gazes at me with his eloquent eyes,
Those amber, gold-flecked wise old eyes.

Wrapping my arms about his broad shoulders,
His deep chest, so warm, his heart beating,
He seems to hug me too, with his body.
At night, his huge, heavy head rests on me,
His breathing slow in the night.
He dreams, legs kicking ,of chasing a cat.
